The Lost Album consists of tracks recorded in May 1963 and January 1964 in Nashville. The initial sessions provided RCA with enough material to issue Elvis's fifth studio album of the '60s, a likely successor to the preceding pair, Something for Everybody and Pot Luck. That is, a rather modest collection of rockers, ballads and a lil' ol' country. There are some strong numbers, especially the ones that ended up on singles: "(You're The) Devil in Disguise," "Please Don't Drag That String Around," and "Witchcraft." The January session produced what many consider one of Elvis's finest moments as a ballad singer, "It Hurts Me," which was, all too typically by then, relegated to the B-side of an abysmal soundtrack song as a summer single. The Lost Album collects them all in one place with fine sound and is a lot of fun, if of little significance.
